What is DepthPop?
DepthPop is a browser extension and gallery system for creating and displaying depth-based 3D Photos. It pairs a full-color original image with a grayscale depth map, then uses the map to move near and far areas at different speeds.
Does DepthPop use or require an online generation service?
No. The extension is designed for local image processing in Google Chrome or Brave, so your selected image stays on your computer while you prepare and export the pair.
Which browsers and devices are supported?
Use the DepthPop extension in Google Chrome or Brave on a desktop computer to generate your image and depth map. Gallery previews support tilt animation on compatible Android phones with motion sensors, with finger dragging as a fallback. The 3D tilt effect does not work on iPad.
How should I name the files?
Use matching names such as photo.jpg and photo_depth.jpg. Both files must have exactly the same pixel dimensions. In the depth map, lighter areas are nearer and darker areas are farther away.
How do I upload a 3D Photo to Facebook?
Download both the original image and depth map, then upload the matched pair through Facebook on a desktop computer. Phone uploads may not recognize the pair correctly because Facebook controls how 3D Photos are processed.
Does the 3D tilt effect work on iPad?
No. The 3D tilt effect does not work on iPad. Generate your image and depth map using the DepthPop extension in Chrome or Brave on a desktop computer.
Can I download the original image and depth map?
Yes, when the creator has made downloads available. Open the photo preview and use the download buttons shown there. If no download buttons appear, downloads are not available for that photo.
Why does the effect look different between photos?
The result depends on subject separation, depth-map smoothness, image dimensions, device performance, and browser graphics support. Matching dimensions and a clean grayscale map with soft transitions generally produce the best effect.
Is the $1.99 payment recurring?
No. It is presented as a one-time purchase with no subscription or recurring fee. The final price, applicable tax, payment, and refund details are shown by the checkout provider.
